The Episcopal Campus Ministry at Northwestern University is engaged in a probing conversation about sexual ethics in the 21st Century. Students both gay and straight are actively seeking the guidance of our faith tradition as they navigate their sexual lives. Foundational questions for this conversation include:
*What makes any ethic a Christian ethic?
*What would a church have to look like for me to feel safe being honest about my sexual life there?
*How can we foster a community where people of all sexual identities can feel safe and empowered through exploring and disclosing emotional concerns related to dating, infatuations, family of origin conflicts, life images, cultural insights and social shame?
*What are the theological ethical models that can help us think about sexuality and the church?
*What would a progressive ethical model look like that would allow for full inclusion and support of LGBT persons in our spiritual communities?
